Support Research! Support Habitat!!
August '09 appeal letter
In August 2009 we launched a fundraising campaign to support our first field season of research and conservation. We set our goal at $5000, the remaining fees that the field station (CICRA) required to maintain and preserve this rainforest habitat. By October, we were overwhelmed by the response we had received. Over 80 individuals contributed towards our effort (honoured here) and we want to THANK YOU for helping us reach this goal. With these contributions, we were able to support the field site for 9 months while our project took place. In addition, 9 students joined us as field assistants who also brought income to the field station. In total, this provided CICRA 18 months of revenue (us) and a total of 27 months of revenue from our field assistants. During the months of February, March, and April, our project alone sustained the station.
Thanks in large part to you, our first field season was a terrific success, so much so, that we were able to undertake a second field season from February 2011 - August 2011. Additional funds contributed to this the project will only serve to further our research and conservation efforts in Peru. We can a) prolong our 2012 field season, and thus financial support for three field sites that protect 372,772 hectares of rainforest; b) expand the breadth of our work, ensuring the sustenance of research and diversity of education in field anthropology and biology. All these factors are directly linked to the well-being and preservation of the Peruvian Amazon.
Without research, there's no understanding. Without understanding, there's no value. Without value, there's no need for conservation. And without conservation, there will be no rainforest left - and this can, and will, happen within our lifetimes if we don't ACT.
