PrimatesPeru is a nonprofit organisation founded in 2009 for the study and conservation of primates in southeast Perú. From the beginning, our primary focus has been the ecology and biology of the Callitrichidae: saddleback tamarins (Saguinus fuscicollis weddelli), emperor tamarins (Saguinus imperator) and Goeldi's monkey (Callimico goeldii). To date, our efforts have expanded to include the study of natural phenoma of entire primate communties (e.g. resource partitioning and disease dynamics). The most recent addition to our field activities is a project on predator defence mechanisms of the bald-faced saki monkey (Pithecia irrorata), especially in relation to large felids, such as the jaguar, puma, and ocelot.
The project team works out of several field sites in the Madre de Dios Department of the Peruvian Amazon, near the borders with Bolivia and Brazil. We are accepting support in the form of research assistants and donations for research funding.
